Church

Most who know me, know that, except for my wedding I have not been in a church since I started driving. I have been conflicted as to what my personal religious beliefs are, or if I even have any beliefs. I have never really felt like a true atheist, but I have spent no time as an adult exploring religion. My lack of religion has never really bothered me and since my husband is the same as me (has not been to church as an adult) I never gave it much thought. I recently received a package for the kiddos from their great aunt Mary. It included cookie cutters in some religious shapes and a Christmas calender with bible verses for each day leading up to Christmas. They also got a Veggie Tales video. They have seen Veggie Tales before and although they like it, the religious parts are lost on them as they have no religious foundation. I told Brandon that Christmas is Jesus' birthday and he said, "who is Jesus?" I thought I would be struck by lightning right then and there. So after trying with very little effect to explain a tiny portion of it, I asked him if he would like to go to Sunday school to learn about religion. He loves to learn so of course he said yes. Chris gave me a giggle and although I think we both knew we would go back to church at some point, we are both feeling a little like phonies by going to church. I took Brandon today and he loved Sunday school, and although I spent the greater part of the service with him making sure he was comfortable, I did enjoy being there, but I think I am going to have to dig deep to find my personal beliefs. Stay tuned.....in two weeks Chris and Colin will go too...
