Am I a victim of the worsening economy?

I read an article today that got me thinking. I believe that my company may have decided that "restructuring" the schedule template would be a good way to save the company $$$. They restructure the schedule to include many more part time people and eliminate full time positions and they have less to pay out in benefits which equal well over $10,000per position eliminated (based on the insurance coverage chosen). I these tight economic times, I think that makes me a victim of our worsening economy. They are trying to expand at a time when costs are rising for everything and I am sure that reimbursements are not keeping up....so what is a company to do???? get rid of some full time staff......Hmmmmm a victim of the recession...you know it's bad if nurses are affected with job losses..... I am glad I found a new job so quickly...hopefully this is not a new trend, part time non benefit positions replacing full time jobs,. that could be very bad for the average family.

I think Chris and I pretty much are middle income, middle America, average joes....We live in our single family home, make just over 6 figures, carry under 8,000 in credit card debt, have one car payment, and one motorcycle payment. We have our home, but tapped the equity and are pretty sure that at this point we owe as much or more than our home is worth. There are lots of us in this position, but thinking about the bad economy got me thinking. We have no plans to move, can find jobs within commuting distance, and have no reason to think we would have to sell for a loss any time soon. As long as we both work, the bills are paid with a little left over, we are tightening the belts and trying a little harder to payoff the credit and we continue to invest (buy low you know)......how will people like us weather the recession???? I have never been through this before......I figure as long a we are employed and keep our health insurance coverage, that nothing drastic is likely to happen to us financially just due to the economy. Job loss, illness, ect... those are problems recession or not but is there likely to be any impact on us personally due to the down turn??? I know investments will go down, but we are young and will gain back our losses, there is no problem with our home as long as we don't HAVE to sell it for a loss for any reason, we figure if we have to we can live here forever and be comfortable and earn back our equity. The uncertainty lays in the unknown, and I guess it will stay that way, unknown. Hopefully we will come out on the other side wiser with our money and with greater wisdom that will help us in the future.
