First Oncologist appointment

The oncologist was very cool. He did not say what he thought the mass is, just that we need more tests to move forward. I will get scheduled for an esophageal scope, to "see" whats going on in my esophagus and a PET ct scan, which apparently highlights cancer areas on the body. As he put it, it looks for areas of "high activity" (metabolic maybe? something to google) He is not keen on the idea of me having the mass biopsied unless it is the only area as it is a hard area to get to and would require a thoracic surgeon to perform. He said that if it is lymphoma then it is highly curable and is "the" cancer to have if you are going to have cancer. The PET is scheduled for 11/9 and he told me he will have a gastrointerologist call and schedule me for a scoping. I got back to the oncologist on 11/13.

Very strange being in the waiting room of an oncologist office. Knowing that most everyone there is battling a disease that could kill them. I was certainly the youngest. Makes getting old look really darn sad for some. But I guess you don't have to be old to get cancer. I am taking care of a 28 year old hospice patient who is dying of cancer of the brain. Kids get cancer too, it is sooooo random who gets it. I have had some time to think about how short our time can be and felt alot of anxiety over the future. I have decided that I need to try to "DO" more. Get out with the kids more, see more, do more. The first thing I am doing is going on a late night date with my hubby this weekend. We are going to Rock and Bowl. We haven't been bowling since we were teenagers. It will lots of fun. We are dropping the kiddos off in their jammies for a pajama party with their Aunt Peapaw. We will sneak them home in the wee hours of the morning. We carved a pumpkin tonight, with all that has been going on we forgot to do that so we ran around this evening looking for a pumpkin and came home with three. Plus the baby one Colin picked out. Sooooo cute.

I'm so glad everything is moving forward and that your anxiety is being channeled into doing stuff! I'm so glad I can help out by babysitting this weekend. I hope you have a great time out bowling!
